At the meeting, Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova participated along with the President of external affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Ilarion of Volokolamsk, Bishops Sava of Tiraspol and Dubăsari, Anatoly of Cahul and Comrat, Peter of Hâncu, and Marcel of Bălţi and Făleşti.
I am very happy that your Eminence, along with your Bishops, are here, on this sacred land – said His Holiness the senior Pastor of the Russian Orthodox Church, as he welcomed Chisinau’s Metropolitan Vladimir. We are sometimes asked: “why do you ascribe Moldova to Holy Russia, because Moldovans speak another language, a non-slavic one?” And I respond that: “Holy Russia is a notion that is neither ethnic, political or linguistic, but a spiritual notion”.
“When we pray together with our brothers and sisters in Moldova we feel no difference – in front of God we are a single people – said the Patriarch. “This communion of values, a communion of spiritual orientation, is greater than any political boundary; and the political parties which threaten to split us apart are not capable to destroy this unity. The sooner they understand this the less resources they will waste in vain.”
“Today we pray for Moldova, for the blossoming of the Moldovan people, so that the political orientation of Moldova continue to contribute to maintaining the unity of Holy Russia” said His Holiness Kyrill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, in closing.
